CPAP and Ventilator Caregiver Training

CPAP and Ventilator Caregiver Training

A clear equipment walkthrough for the person doing the day-to-day care at home.

The person doing the day-to-day care needs to know the equipment as well as we do. Our RT walks you through the machine, your prescribed routine, and what an alarm actually means, so you know what to do and who to call.

Caregiver education is teaching the person who helps at home how to understand and follow an existing respiratory routine. The real problem is uncertainty: a machine may alarm, a mask or tube may feel unfamiliar, or the caregiver may not know what to record or whom to ask. This training is about using equipment safely and consistently within the prescribed plan, not changing settings or making clinical decisions. For families asking how to use a ventilator at home, our licensed respiratory therapist offers caregiver training for CPAP and other agreed equipment, with time to practise the routine and prepare questions for the physician.

Who this is for

This service is for family members and caregivers supporting someone on CPAP, BiPAP, ventilator, high-flow, or tracheostomy care at home, at any stage of the care pathway. Training follows the existing prescription and care plan.

What our RT actually does

Equipment familiarity

Your RT gives a hands-on walkthrough of the specific machine and its parts. You can practice identifying the interface, tubing, humidification pieces, power connections, and routine checks so the equipment feels less mysterious.

Prescribed routine walkthrough

The RT explains the day-to-day routine your plan calls for, including what happens before use, during use, and when the equipment is cleaned or put away. Questions about settings stay connected to the physician's instructions.

Alarm response and safety

Your RT explains what each relevant alarm means and the first step to take when it sounds. Training focuses on recognizing the equipment signal, checking the simple items covered by the plan, and knowing when to escalate rather than guessing.

When and who to escalate to

You leave with a clearer line on when to call your RT versus your physician or wider care team. The escalation route follows the plan already given to the household.

Shared household practice

Training works best when the people who share the routine can attend together. Bring the machine, interface, tubing, and written instructions that are part of the household setup, then ask the questions you normally postpone. Your RT can repeat the explanation in plain language and help the family agree on who follows which part of the prescribed routine.

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Our licensed respiratory therapist works within RT scope and coordinates with the physician's existing instructions.

How a visit works

1

Free teleconsult

We understand the situation and review the existing physician instructions.

2

Home visit

Your RT arrives at the scheduled time and explains the agreed service.

3

First nights

You follow the agreed routine at home and record the questions that matter.

4

Follow-through

Scheduled check-ins keep the household, RT, and physician connected.

Cost and care bundles

Pricing varies by the equipment, visit cadence, service area, and support requested. It is priced as part of a care bundle, ask for a quote after the teleconsult.

Making training stick

Caregiver training is easier to use when more than one person hears the same explanation. If possible, invite the family member who may cover the routine on another night and keep the agreed steps together with the equipment. Your RT can help turn unclear questions into a short list for the physician or care team. For scheduled follow-through after training, see the RT home visit program, and for the wider service route see home respiratory care.

Frequently asked questions

It is for people whose existing respiratory or physician-directed plan matches caregiver education. The right route is confirmed during the free teleconsult.

Yes. Home visits are scheduled in Metro Manila and cover the agreed service in the setting where the equipment or routine is used.

No. Our RT works within scope and coordinates with the physician. Clinical decisions and prescriptions remain with the physician.

Yes. Your RT walks through the specific equipment and the prescribed routine, then gives you time to practice identifying parts and raising questions.

For the equipment itself, see CPAP, BiPAP, and home respiratory care. Training can support a home visit program, tracheostomy care, or an existing palliative respiratory plan.
